Lake Texoma is an 89,000 surface acres lake on the Red River that is shared by both Oklahoma and Texas. Recognized as a top fishing lake, it is also considered one of the most popular recreation destinations in the Southwest The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area is about 1 hour to the south and Oklahoma City is about 2 hours from the lake to the north. The lake attracts over 6 million visitors a year. With its miles of gorgeous sandy beaches and several on the water restaurants and clubs, this is the place to come to have a great time!

Fishing is great in the area! Lake Texoma is known as the "Striper Capital of the World," and is one of a few lakes nationally where the striped bass reproduce naturally. Other popular species in the lake include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, white crappie, black crappie, blue catfish and channel catfish. The dam site location is about 5 miles northwest of Denison, Texas and 15 miles southwest of Durant, Oklahoma. The Lake Texoma shoreline runs through Bryan, Marshall, Johnson, and Love counties in Oklahoma; and in Grayson and Cooke counties in Texas.

 

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages 54 parks on beautiful Lake Texoma. There are two state parks, two wildlife refuges, 26 resorts, 12 marinas and literally hundreds of campgrounds for your enjoyment at the lake. You can rent water craft at the lake and store your boat at one of the marinas.

Power boating, sailing, personal watercraft, water skiing, jet skiing and wind surfing are popular activities on the lake. Lake Texoma is also becoming a huge sailing center because of the lake's size, depth and miles of sailing shoreline. Whether you spend a day, a weekend, a week or longer, there are many things that will give you great memories of your time on the lake!

Climate and Temperatures: Lake Texoma Country has a mild climate due to its southern location and low elevations.

Winter temperatures range from 50 degrees to 25 degrees F. The average January temperature is 42 degrees Fahrenheit and very little snow falls during this period. Spring begins in March, with temperatures between 50 and 70 degrees F. and temperatures rise throughout the season.

Summer highs begin to peak in July and August. The July temperature average is 80 degrees. Some days during the summer, temperatures does reach the 100 degrees mark. Fall temperatures provide relief from the heat of summer. Temperatures  reach into the 60s for highs and dip into the 30s for the lows.

The relative humidity has an annual average of 64 percent. The most rainfall occurs during the months of May and June. The area receives an average of 38 inches of rain and 5 inches of snow.
